Abstrakt: John Virata The JVC Everio GZ-MG505U is one of the new breed of camcorders that does away with tape and records directly to a hard disk drive. In addition to this, it features 3 CCDs and a five megapixel still image recording capability in a palm-sized...
Abstrakt: Keeping It Real Simple On the left side of the LCD screen is a joystick that controls manual features (i.e., shutter, iris, white balance, etc.), night shot, manual focus, backlight and spot exposure. Thats quite a bit of control for just a single joy...
Great feature set overall, with manual controls rivaling Panasonic
Joystick controller works well, and screenside placement surprisingly convenient
Very good video quality, and versatility
Huge 60GB HDD
Good video performance and excellent still perfor...
With HD camcorders only a few hundred dollars more, value is questionable for this SD model
Battery life is shorter than competing models
The JVC GZ-MG505 is the best of the Everio hard disk drive (HDD) camcorders, a welcome relief to a product line marred by overpriced and underperforming camcorders. However, much like its predecessor, the GZ-MC500, this top-of-the-line model managed to...
Huge storage capacity, highly portable, excellent video and stills quality
Experienced videographers may find colors oversaturated
With excellent video and stills performance, the JVC Everio GZ-MG505 manages to improve upon its predecessor, the GZ-MC500. Near the top of JVCs line of internal hard-drive camcorders, the GZ-MG505 is priced out of the reach of budget consumers. Howe...
Abstrakt: The compact Everio GZ-MG505 camcorder captures quality video with ease, but transferring that footage to a PC can be tedious and confusing

Taken on its own strengths, the JVC GZ-MG50E is a formidable package. Image quality is good, there is sufficient storage space for the lack of removable media not to be a problem at all, and the features are more than adequate if you don't have semi-profe...
Abstrakt: JVC?s auto controls are as sufficient compared to most camcorders, so point and shooters could safe record a baseball game without too much trouble. The menus are inviting, so those willing to play around with a few controls should manage.

Generally satisfying video and still-photo quality; light and compact design; appropriate and usable manual controls.
No eye-level viewfinder; requires a pass through the manual to understand operation; no internal lens cover; renders reds poorly; video looks washed out on computer.
A well-designed hard-disk-based camcorder, the JVC Everio GZ-MG505 produces video and stills that look great on TV. But its price might make you hit Pause.
Massive storage (7 hours of MPEG2 video)
Much less video noise than earlier Everios
Fast focusing and response
Nice ergonomics
Colors don’t have pop
Color accuracy off target
There’s no question JVC had definitely made some progress with its hard-disc drive camcorders. By using three CCDs, annoying digital noise is greatly eliminated. The camcorder focuses quickly, is nicely designed other than a floppy lens cap but pure...
