Halo Wars 2 doesn't break any new ground, and won't soon overtake the leaders of the genre, but it offers plenty for gamers who seek a refined console-focused RTS and another joyous trip into the Halo universe...
Abstrakt: When the first Halo Wars launched for Xbox 360 back in 2009, it was a considerable step forward for RTS games played on consoles. Although it simplified certain aspects of base building and unit selection a little too much for some, it gave console gamers...
Gorgeous cutscenes faithfully capture the Halo universe, Blitz Mode is a creative twist on RTS multiplayer
Same missions you've played for two decades of RTS design, Scattered control and performance issues, Microtransactions undercut its best ideas
And remember, beyond those gameplay gripes, there's also a host of performance issues and control scheme issues, which (again) you can find in PCWorld's Halo Wars 2 review-in-progress from last week. Suffice it to say: The game doesn't quite nail everythi...

Accessible, strategic gameplay using a rock-paper-scissors metaphor, Simple, streamlined controls, Terrific CG scenes and voice acting
Unit AI can be finicky and unresponsive at times, Shallow story, Occasional graphical glitches and stuttering during testing
Halo Wars 2 is an RTS for the layman. Easy-to-learn mechanics and basic micromanagement keep the game interesting and engaging, but it lacks the strategic depth to keep hardcore RTS fans invested for long...

Outstanding visuals with great level and unit design make the game look fantastic, Strong core gameplay that builds enough on the regular rock, paper, scissors style, Blitz mode offers an interesting twist on multiplayer, adding a strategic layer of card
However, pay to win microtransactions damage what would be an excellent mode in Blitz, The story campaign is simply bad, offering no resolution or any real development outside of Isabel, Perplexing choices in design and even the menus show a little less a
Halo Wars 2 is an ideal strategy game for beginners. There's little doubting that the action is solid and it looks fantastic, but other strange choices mar what would be a great title. From downright bad writing, to the inclusion of pay to win microtransa...

Abstrakt: The nice thing about Halo Wars 2 is that it works.Which is nicer than it sounds, because the biggest fear about real-time strategy games on a console, and the thing that generally keeps those games off the platforms in the first place, is that a control p...
Abstrakt: It's not often you'll see a game get a sequel 8 years after the fact, but if any game deserves it, I'd say Halo Wars does. And boy oh boy what a sequel. As someone who enjoys real time strategy games in a more casual way (dabble in StarCraft, occasionally...
Abstrakt: 2009's Halo Wars was perhaps the only game on a console to get real-time strategy right. It was made specifically for the Xbox, and the developers went in knowing that certain PC real-time strategy conventions would have to be sacrificed for it to work ri...
