The Asus G74SX packs gamer-friendly components into an understated case, and includes a large 160GB SSD and plenty of RAM
It's very expensive, while some parts still feel cheap, and higher-end boutique laptops beat it on performance
Asus has built a very nice sideline over the years with its gaming laptops, including the G74SX, which is a strong, if expensive, quad-core rig that works fine, but looks like it should cost less....
High level performance. More RAM than you can poke a stick at. 3GB on a video card? Is that even necessary?. Easy access panel for upgrading
Terrible Sentelic touch pad makes a return. Bad quality speakers considering the size of the laptop. Voluminous amounts of crapware
The G74SX is a good laptop marred by painful concessions — namely the awful trackpad, cheap speakers and droves of crapware. All of these things can be overcome by the user spending more time and money, but we sure wish this wasn't the case....
So here we are at the end of our first (and most certainly not last) notebook review and the G74SX has started things off on the right foot. The performance we saw was absolutely top notch in almost every category and it provides everything someone cou...
Understated and Attractive, Well Powered, Good Screen, Nice Touch Pad
A Bit Clunky, Battery is not fantastic
The ASUS is the gaming laptop for the more aesthetically pragmatic, though it still packs a punch. It's a well catered for machine in power terms, with a good 3D screen and plenty to recommend it....
Great screen quality @ 1080p, Strong overall performance, fantastic keyboard, good touchpad, onboard sound is decent, good gaming capabilities, with 3D glasses supplied, quiet and cool running, competitive pricing,

There is no doubt the Asus G74SX is an impressive gaming laptop and it is one of the better mobile systems I have tested in recent months. Asus have created a very balanced unit, combining the stunning performance of the Intel Core i7 2630QM processor wit...
Powerful processor, Can handle all games at native definition, Powerful graphics card, Sober looking, Good headphones out
Glossy panel lacking in contrast with false colours, Finish needs a little work, Interference on micin
Like the G53SX, the Asus G74SX is a powerful machine and perfectly adapted to gaming use. Like the G53SX however, it lacks a Full HD panel and Blu-ray player and therefore only receives a four star rating....
From the moment we unboxed the G74Sx it was clear that ASUS were aiming to outdo Alienware in the enthusiast laptop marketplace and we were off to a good start with solid feeling chassis, soft touch coating and some futuristic styling (though ASUS pre...
This "mobile" gaming machine really does have everything you need for on-the-go power-computing, even though it weighs almost as much as a lightweight desktop. Asus packs a lot of power into the Asus G74SX, and the system has a fairly svelte body to bo...
